New Software

The wait is over and the best-engineered, most interoperable Linux platform for mission-critical computing is here: SUSE Linux Enterprise 11. Shipping in May, this latest release features exciting new upgrades that deliver:

  • Greater interoperability—SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 gives you the lowest-cost, most manageable solution for mixed Linux and Windows computing. By working seamlessly with your existing technologies, SUSE Linux Enterprise turns boundaries into bridges to make your IT work as one.

  • Mission-critical computing—SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 strengthens your infrastructure with powerful yet cost-effective enterprise capabilities that make it easy to migrate from UNIX. Choose SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 for mission-critical solutions that keep your infrastructure reliable and resilient.

  • Ubiquity—What can you power with SUSE Linux Enterprise 11? Desktops and servers. Physical and virtual machines. Traditional systems and appliances. Linux ubiquity is here and it's ready to make your infrastructure more agile, manageable and cost-effective than ever.

But that's not all. May's shipment also includes updates to Novell Access Manager, which offers built-in support for WS-Federation, making it the industry's most full-featured Web access management offering—and Novell BorderManager, which now supports rule-hit logging for Access Control List based on text files. Advanced Resources

Bonus Utilities

Our Bonus Utilities include tools, demos, and evals that work with or enhance the functionality of many Novell products. They have been created by assorted developers inside and outside Novell. They're not supported by Novell, but they are often exactly what you need to solve a problem. You can try 'em, rate 'em, and add the good ones to your toolkit. This month's release has some particularly good Bonus Utilities, including:

  • Cscope: Cscope is a developers' tool for browsing source code.

  • eDir-Count: Ever needed to know how many users are in a group, or how many users are in the tree, or a listing of all network addresses for all users in a given container? These are just a few of the things this tool can provide.

  • GroupWise Shared Address Books Reporting: This utility allows a GroupWise administrator to create a report about which user shared an address book with his co-workers, as well as the rights shared.

  • Idapconresponse 2.0: Updates include an added check for wrapped log files, an added support for DoExtended, a corrected -d statement in the help screen, and much more!
