New Software

If you're ready for a complete desktop experience, then you're ready for openSUSE 11.1. Shipping this month, openSUSE is a free operating system, based on Linux, and designed specifically for your PC, laptop or server. You can surf the Web, manage your e-mails and photos, do office work, play videos or music and have a lot of fun! This latest version of openSUSE delivers more than 230 new features, including:

• GNOME 2.24

• KDE 4.1.3

• OpenOffice.org 3.0

Bonus Utilities

Our Bonus Utilities database includes hundreds of useful shareware and freeware programs that were created by the brightest, most innovative minds in the industry, including consultants, engineers and developers inside and outside of Novell. No matter what Novell product you need help with—from Novell GroupWise to Novell ZENworks Configuration Manager, we've got something to get you moving. And this month alone we released 12 new and used Bonus Utilities, including:

• DynaWizard 2.50: This utility is a maintenance automation system for Windows, designed for use wherever workstation configurations need to be retained—no matter what the users on a computer do.

• Process Monitor: This utility will monitor your daemons and if they fail, it will attempt to restart them. If it succeeds, it will send you a notification e-mail; if it fails to restart the daemon, it will e-mail you and tell you to investigate!

• Print and Dialog Toolkit: This is an interactive printing toolkit with a set of pseudo-printers.

• Sentinel DB Sizing Estimator: This is a quick perl script you may find useful for database sizing in a Sentinel installation.

• Shared Folder Reporting Tool: This handy, freeware tool generates a CSV file that lists all shared folders in your GroupWise system.

• UserKVYlist 2.0.0: The UserKVYlist program scans all eDirectory trees and creates the CSV and HTML reports about all user objects in your network.

Technical White Papers

Sometimes the limited information you can find about your Novell products online just isn't enough. Sometimes you need a little bit more. Now you have it. With April's shipment, you get access to six new technical white papers, including:

• PlateSpin Migrate Best Practices—This guide is for PlateSpin Migrate users that are performing Windows NT 4.0 workloads migrations. The information provided here was compiled by our support and services teams based on their experience working with thousands of PlateSpin Migrate users and migration projects. Use the guide to avoid common pitfalls or to diagnose an issue if something goes wrong with a Windows NT conversion.

• Domain Services for Windows—Domain Services for Windows allows users to log in and authenticate to both eDirectory and Active Directory from a Windows workstation—without requiring multiple logins or having Novell Client for Windows installed. It provides interoperability between eDirectory and Active Directory environments, simplifying network infrastructures in a way that helps reduce IT costs, streamline IT operations and improve the overall user experience.

• Novell GroupWise vs. Microsoft Exchange—Novell GroupWise has a large and loyal customer base and is currently seeing healthy growth. And the highly anticipated GroupWise 8 takes productivity to a whole new level with a fully connected collaborative workspace leveraging the latest Web 2.0 technologies. With GroupWise 8, users can add wikis and blogs, RSS feeds and Web pages to their Home View. They can publish their calendars to the outside world and busy search across e-mail systems. They can manage contacts more effectively than ever before. And with more robust Linux, Mac and WebAccess clients, they can work in the way that suits them best.

Problems occur in systems every day—it's just a fact of life. But that doesn't mean that you can't stay ahead of those problems and keep your environment secure with the latest patches. Where do you get those patches, you ask? In your Novell technical subscription, of course! This month's shipment includes 38 new and updated ReadMe files and patches to help keep your systems up and running. In addition, it includes 10 support packs for products such as Novell eDirectory, Novell Access Manager and Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management on Linux.

If you want to keep your access to your Subscriber Portal account, but no longer want to receive the physical deliverable, just e-mail us at subscriptions@novell.com. We will keep your Portal account active for the duration of your subscription, but will stop sending you CDs/DVDs in the mail.
