Novell Open Enterprise Server

What does Novell Open Enterprise Server provide above and beyond what is already available in Linux and open source? It adds enterprise-class file, print and storage infrastructure software to Linux; reinvigorates the NetWare® platform; adds award-winning support, training and consulting services to the open source world; and provides real choice to customers running NetWare, UNIX or Windows. Novell Open Enterprise Server can offer significant value in five areas where the needs of complex networks exhaust the capabilities of open source applications delivered with Linux servers:

Management Scalability supports the enterprise need for administration scalability and access control of file, print, applications, collaboration, security and storage.

Global Security provides identity-based services and common management tools for controlling, securing and administering the enterprise.

End-user Productivity extends rich services to both Windows and Linux workstations and delivers the distributed foundation for a complete Linux-based server-to-desktop alternative.

Deployment Agility lets organizations choose from a number of common deployment scenarios to make the network more productive, more quickly.

Business Continuance helps organizations to focus on how they will ensure their services are always up and running and complying with government regulation.

This powerful, unique networking foundation allows NetWare and SUSE® LINUX Enterprise Server to coexist and interoperate within your organization. Together, you get common management tools, identity-based services and an entire ecosystem of support backed by Novell.

Additional Software Releases

Other upcoming releases include the following:

  • Novell exteNd 5.2.1—Novell exteNd 5.2 is a comprehensive suite for the rapid development and deployment of service-oriented Web applications. With Novell exteNd 5.2, developers can powerfully combine identity, integration and portal services to securely deliver relevant business information, at the appropriate time, to the right people.
  • Novell iManager 2.5—Novell iManager provides a global view of your network from one browser-based tool, allowing you to proactively assess and respond to your changing network demands. New features include a skinable look and feel to customize colors, logos or graphics; Mobile iManager to deploy the management console on a Linux or Windows workstation; and new categories for roles and tasks.
  • Novell Nsure Audit 1.0.3—This secure logging and auditing product helps you reduce your organization's liability and risk by ensuring compliance with governmental regulations and business-driven security policies. As a key part of any comprehensive secure identity management solution, this indispensable product collects data about security, system and application events that occur across your organization's network. It then stores this information centrally using one of the following data formats: flat file, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle or SYSLOG.

Updated Novell Developer Kit

The DVD shipment of the Novell Developer Kit mirrors the updates made on the Novell Developer Kit Web site March 2, 2005. Because changes may have occurred on the Web since the DVD was produced, please refer to the Web version of the NDK at http://developer.novell.com/ndk/ for the latest updates.

This NDK DVD release contains the following changes and updates:

The NDK Download A-Z page has been modified to include every component and to allow easy access to binaries, documentation and sample code. The doc.htm and sample.htm pages are now available through the downloadaz.htm instead of on separate pages.

The layout of the component-details page has changed, as well. You can now access previous versions of builds from the Download Archive option. If a product has multiple versions or platforms, all download files are now available from one details page.

Note: A new installation vendor is being used for the Windows executables. If you have installed a version of an SDK prior to March 2005, please uninstall it before you install an updated component.

For comprehensive details, including highlights of all the additions, deletions and updates made since March 2, see the Novell Developer Kit "What's Changed" page at http://developer.novell.com/ndk/whatsnew.htm
