rpm -q k_smp
The command should return something like this in case you are running
k_smp
: k_smp-2.4.18-136
The command will return "package k_smp is not installed" if you are not running the SuSE default kernel. Please have a look at the other available patches in that case:
"Recommended update fuer Linux kernel (k_deflt) " (http://sdb.suse.de/en/psdb/html/9a01e026d3cc8b0e438bcabf4ec31fe8.html) "Recommended update fuer Linux kernel (k_psmp) " (http://sdb.suse.de/en/psdb/html/e15470c3f3babf6f51e391d9e937dea4.html)
To install the kernel please run these commands:
rpm -Uhv k_smp.rpm mk_initrd /sbin/lilo -v
Now reboot the machine to activate the new kernel:
shutdown -r now
Substitute "now" with an appropiate amount of time (eg. +10 for 10 minutes) if you want to give local users a chance to log out before the system goes down.
