NDS (Novell Directory Services) v8 includes a new feature--an object revision counter. All objects in NDS 8 have an attribute that is called "Revision." This attribute is a long integer and is of the NDS attribute type "Counter" (SYN_COUNTER).
Whenever an object is modified, the Revision counter is incremented. So, when verifying objects to see if they have changed, you simply need to look at the Revision number. This attribute is great for checking for changes in a large list of objects.
Unfortunately, this attribute is not exposed in ConsoleOne. You need to use a tool like DSBrowse to effectively read this attribute for testing purposes.
