Troubleshooting Cluster Problems After Applying NetWare 5.1 SP1

If you have trouble getting a node to rejoin a cluster after you've applied Support Pack 1 to the NetWare 5.1 servers in the cluster, here's a tip. The error code that you will likely see is fffffd86, which means
#define ERR_NO_REFERRALS - 634 /* 0xFFFFFD86 */
This error means when the server booted, the CLSTRLIB file could not contact any NDS replicas in order to read its cluster configuration information which is stored in the Directory. Before rebooting the servers, make sure NDS is up and running somewhere on the network so that CLSTRLIB can find the necessary information.
