On a NetWare server, a module called NBI.NLM detects PCI devices and assigns each one a HIN (Hardware Interface Number). If the bus/device can be found in the IRQ Routing table, the slot number is assigned as the HIN. However, if the adapter in a slot has more than one device, the slot number that is used is multiplied by 100 and combined with an instance value. If the bus/device value is not found in the IRQ Routing table, a number in the range of 10000 is used.
