Playing the Explorer/NAL Shell Game

Articles and Tips: tip

01 Aug 1999

If you want to use the Novell Application Launcher (NAL) as your shell in Windows 95 instead of Windows Explorer, follow these steps:

  1. Copy the following files to a directory on your hard disk:

    NALW95.EXE NALRES32.DLL NALBMP32.DLL NAL.HLP

  2. In the SYSTEM.INI file (located in your Windows directory), find the line in the [boot] section that starts with SHELL= (it will probably say SHELL= EXPLORER.EXE).

  3. Replace the current setting with the full path of the NALW95.EXE file (for example, SHELL=C:\path\ NALW95.EXE).

  4. Save the changes and restart Windows.
