How to Recover 7 MB of Disk Space on Windows Workstations

As operating systems, applications, and data files consume more and more disk space, many administrators are scrambling to find ways to squeeze a few more megabytes out of users' workstation hard drives. The following steps outline an easy way to reclaim 7MB of space on workstations running Windows 95. What it amounts to is deleting the seldom-used video files Windows that are installed as part of the help system.

  1. Click the Start button.

  2. Choose Find | Files or Folders.

  3. Click Browse and navigate to the C:\Windows\Help folder, and click OK.

  4. In the Named box, type *.avi .

  5. Click on the Find Now button.

  6. Choose Edit | Select All.

  7. Choose File | Delete and confirm the deletion when prompted.
