Q.

When I use ConsoleOne or iManager on Linux, sometimes I can't find my tree so I can authenticate to it; instead, I receive an error message. For example, with ConsoleOne 1.3.6d, I receive an error - 634. What can I do to authenticate to my tree so I can administer it?

A.

The problem here is the configuration of the Service Location Protocol (SLP); the eDirectory tools use the SLP to locate services on the network. If the SLP is not configured on the client side, the client will not be able to locate the tree. To authenticate to the tree without using SLP, however, you can use the server's IP address in the Tree Name field as shown in Figure 8. This bypasses the use of SLP and will connect directly to the server.
