Q.

I installed a Linux-based Novell Open Enterprise Server and tried to activate the patch channel, but rug ch tells me no channels are available. Why can't I see the Open Enterprise Server channel?

A.

On some Open Enterprise Server installations, the /etc/novell-release file is not being placed correctly. Without the /etc/novell-release file, rug/rcd doesn't recognize the system as being eligible for Open Enterprise Server patches. To solve the problem, use YaST to install the Open Enterprise Server release package. The package places the /etc/novell-release file on the system. If the package is not available, you can create it manually. The /etc/novell-release file should read as shown in Figure 6 below.
