Q.

I have used the NTP Client in YaST to add an NTP server for time synchronization. The remote server is contacted and the time is synchronized when the NTP daemon starts, but /var/log/ntp shows the time is only being synchronized with the local machine after that.

Even though a remote server exists, it might not be immediately reachable by the NTP client. If this is the case, the time may not be synchronized. To solve this problem, make the NTP client more persistent in contacting the server by appending burst and iburst as options to the server. To do this in the NTP Client, select Complex Configuration; then choose your server from the list. Select Edit; then add the options to the Options list.
