Q.

When other distributions extract without problem, why do errors occur when the subscriber attempts to extract an application distribution?

A.

The Desktop Application distribution type requires two extra elements. First, you must have configured a Working Context on the subscriber. This context acts as the mirror context for the source root context specified in the distribution. It helps the subscriber determine where to create the application object when it is extracted by the new subscriber. Once you have configured this, make sure to send a distribution to the subscriber so that it receives the configuration.

The second difference between application distributions and most other distribution types is that the subscriber object must log into the tree. This is done using the SUB_PASSWORD.TXT file in the TED\SECURITY directory.

The SUB_PASSWORD.TXT file is created the first time the subscriber requires login or when it receives the Working Context. The other time that the subscriber logs in is when extracting file distributions or Server Software Packages that have been configured to maintain trustee assignments.
