Q.
I have a Windows-only environment with Active Directory and have implemented ZENworks for Desktops. How do I deploy the agent without having to touch each machine?
A.
Currently, the easiest way to do this is to use a Windows group policy that runs MSIEXEC.EXE with the parameters to distribute the agent along with the configuration you want in the machine startup script. This has the advantage of installing the agent before the user logs in. For information about the MSI Properties that are used to customize the ZENworks agent, see the Installing ZENworks Quick Reference guide on the CD.
Another method is to create an MST for the agent using the InstallTailor tool found on the Companion CD. Then use the Group Policy Software Delivery function to distribute the agent. However, be careful with this method as it can result in users losing keyboard and mouse input if the machine to which you deliver the agent has the Windows directory located in a directory other than the machine where the MST was created.
