Q.
I want to inventory workstations that are not connected to the network and then have that inventory information stored in the ZENworks inventory database.
A.
First, create a workstation object that represents the disconnected workstation. It doesn't work to manually create a workstation with ConsoleOne. But in ZENworks for Desktops 4 and later you can use ZWSREG.EXE to manually create workstation objects. To do this, simply run ZWSREG -ImportServer none - ImportWS . This will create the workstation object with the name in the location specified by the DN. Once you have the workstation object in the tree, create a ZFDSCANNER.INI file as specified in the online documentation for ZENworks. Then run the scanner with a /D switch on the disconnected workstation. This will generate a scanner output file (STR) in the C:\ZENWORKS directory of the disconnected workstation. Then transfer the STR file to the inventory server's SCANDIR directory where it will be added to the database.
