Q.

I am using a Visual Basic 6-based application to login to a Novell Directory Server. The Novell client is 4.83 with Support Pack 1 (this runs on Windows 2000 clients). I am getting lots of errors with the error code 34948.

In the Novell client, I have given Preferred Tree and Preferred Server information. To avoid problems, I have also updated the host file with IP addresses of Preferred Server and Preferred Tree names (as per TID #10082833). Do you have any idea what may be causing these types of errors?

A.

34948 stands for 0x8884, which is RESOLVE_SVC_FAILED. This could mean that a Volume object in your tree has become corrupted. To fix the problem, tryrunning DSRepair > Advanced Options > Check Volume Objects and Trustees.
