Q.

I am looking into the possibility of replacing the GroupWise Client's change password to allow it to also update an LDAP Directory with this information (shades of Single Sign-On). Can this be done?

A.

When you bring up the Security Options Dialog in the GroupWise client to change your GroupWise password, there is no token that is thrown that you can catch as a user. You could verify this yourself by using a Third Party Handler (see GroupWise token component) to see what tokens are passed when you change your password. As a result, it is doubtful that you could replace this GroupWise functionality.
