Q.

After I applied NetWare 6 Support Pack 3 to my Dell PowerEdge server, I have a problem with Backup Exec 9.0 not detecting my tape drive. What do I do now?

Dear James: The updated Adaptec driver for the Adaptec 39160 controller appears to be the problem here. Revert the driver back to the version that is included with Support Pack 2. The versions of the drivers are 18.20.13 that are in Support Pack 3 (dated 8.28.02) and 17.12.13 that are in Support Pack 2 (dated 6.21.02). The drivers include the following:

  • adpt160m.ddi

  • adpt160m.ham

  • Note: There are several driver/update issues with Support Pack 3: some of these issues require updates from the server manufacturer (such as Compaq servers) and some issues can be resolved by simply reverting the drivers back to the pervious Support Pack update.
