Extreme Slowness Opening E-Mail

Articles and Tips: qna

Q.

I have recently upgraded to GroupWise 6.5 Beta 3 (yes, I am a Beta Tester). Now, when I try to open an e-mail message, I have to wait an average of 30 seconds. This happens, both at work where I have the luxury of a T1 line and at home, where I am connected with a 650KB DSL line. Prior to upgrading, I was running GroupWise 6.0 with no problems. e-Mail messages would open typically in less than one second.

Timmy Timing Out

Dear Timmy: I have been perusing with the GroupWise Engineers. One Engineer thinks he has a handle on your problem. He is "guessing" that the problem may occur because of the default printer you selected. If you use iPrint or NDPS, and have an iPrint or NDPS printer selected, then it may be trying to talk to the printer for all of the SCC viewers that GroupWise uses. If this is the case, you should choose a local printer even if it is a fake printer that doesn't exist and see if that makes a difference. Also, if you have a printer definition that used to exist but the printer no longer exists and is being used as your default server, that could cause the problem. Delete such printer definitions.
