New NSS Patch Doesn't Solve Problem

Q.

I have applied the updated NSS patch to my NetWare 5.0, 5.1 or 6 server in order to fix a particular problem, but the problem still remains. What should I do?

Pluggin' Away Peggy

A.

Dear Peggy: Many NSS fixes only take full effect if the affected volume is built using the new code. Therefore, it is generally necessary to rebuild the affected NSS volume after applying the patch. With a NetWare 5.0 or 5.1 server, type the command

NSS /rebuild=<VolumeName>

at the server console prompt. On a NetWare 6 server, type

NSS /poolrebuild=<PoolName>.

Note: As with the old VRepair utility, a rebuild has potential to lose data if the volume has severe problems, so it is essential to have a good backup that has been tested for restore ability.
