Communication Problems with NW51SP5 and NW6SP2 Broadcom LAN Cards

Q.

My new servers with NetWare 5.1 Support Pack 5 or NetWare 6 Support Pack 2 and Broadcom LAN cards are having strange communications problems. For instance, sometimes users cannot log on to the servers, or the DHCP server on one of the servers does not hand out addresses properly. Sometimes I cannot even ping the servers. What's up?

Dear Ching: The B57.lan and Q57.lan drivers in those Support Packs are at fault. You will need to update to the very latest version of these drivers. At the time of this writing, the latest version for B57.lan is v2.38 and is currently available at http://home.attbi.com/~insightnet/ under the Links->Novell link.

There is no new Q57.LAN driver yet, but the Q57.ldi file in that download sets the checksum=off option, which works around most of the problems you are facing. There is no known problem with using the B57.lan driver instead of the Q57.lan driver, as the card is identical.
