Can't Read eDirectory for Solaris Media

Articles and Tips: qna

Q.

Dear Ab-end: I have tried installing eDirectory for Solaris 2.6, on my Sun server from three different CDs, each from a different source (NSEL, download, and product), and I have the same issue with all the CDs. Is it possible for me to burn a copy of the NSEL using Windows and have this CD be readable by Solaris? Filenames are appearing with the tilde (~) symbol, and therefore the install will not proceed on Solaris. -- Unreadable Molly Brown in Galveston

A.

Dear Unreadable: The Solaris operating system uses a different CD format than most platforms, such as Windows. The format is called Rock Ridge, which is not compatible with the popular Windows recording formats of ISO 9660 and Joliet. If you are unable to acquire a disc of eDirectory that is in the Rock Ridge format, you might want to consider FTPing the file to your Sun Server, or find CD burning software that supports the correct format. CD Studio+ CD-Recording System from Young Minds, Inc. is one such product that may work.
