Aliasing Server Console Commands

Articles and Tips: qna

01 Apr 2001

Q.

Dear Abend: For some reason, I have a hard time remembering to type CONFIG at the server console prompt. I am used to typing IPCONFIG, and it's really annoying to have to keep retyping the command as CONFIG. Do you have any hints? - Just Wanting to Config

A.

Dear Wanting: I do have a hint for you, and it's very easy. At the console prompt, type:

ALIAS IPCONFIG CONFIG

This will make the CONFIG command an alias for IPCONFIG and will put it into the NetWare registry. Now every time you type IPCONFIG, you'll get the CONFIG command information on your server console screen. (Answer supplied by Trevor Davies and Ahmad Sadeghpour of Novell, Inc.)
