Dear Ab-end: I'm trying to migrate a NetWare 4.11 (Support Pack A) server to NetWare 5.1 (Support Pack 1). I'm using the upgrade wizard version 3.1.600.12 on a Windows NT (with Service Pack 5) workstation with Client 32 version 4.8. The Trustee and the File System Copy were successful, but the migration of NDS was not. The Upgrade wizard indicated that the destination tree had more than one server in it, so it won't complete the upgrade. How can I get my system upgraded?

Dear Upgrading: I've seen this happen in three cases:
Trying to use the upgrade wizard to upgrade to a server that is part of a multi-server tree.
Using the upgrade wizard on a NetWare 5.1 server that had its own tree, but the unusual nature of the install corrupted NDS. (NDS and files from a production server in a multi-server tree were restored onto the new server, then the network card was unplugged before recooking the server.)
A workstation accidentally established an IP connection to one or more of the servers involved in the upgrade.
In all of these cases, the problem was solved by removing NDS from the new NetWare 5.1 server, then reinstalling NDS into a new, separate tree. They also forced the workstation to connect to servers with IPX instead of IP. (Answer supplied by Dean Edwards of Novell)
