-699 Error When Merging NDS Trees

Articles and Tips: qna

Q.

Dear Ab-end: I'm preparing to merge trees. The problem is I'm getting a -699 error when I try to import the remote schema. Evidently, the offending attribute is on both trees. The remote tree has "Case Exact String" associated with this attribute, and the local tree has "Case Ignore String" associated with this attribute. I ran DSREPAIR | Local Repair | Rebuild Operation Schema, but it didn't help. What can I do?

Dear Merging: I've said it before and I'll say it again: when you modify your schema, be very careful. Otherwise, things like this are bound to happen. If the mismatched attributes are a result of your own schema extensions, or if they have been added by a non-Novell application, you can try removing the schema class to which the attribute belongs and then removing the attribute from one of the trees. You can then try running DSMerge again.

I'm afraid your only other option is to call Novell support and have them help you fix this. After you fix the mismatch between these two attributes, you should run DSMerge again to catch any other mismatches you might have. You'll have to repeat this process until your trees merge.
