Using DHCP to Assign a Server IP Address

Articles and Tips: qna

Q.

Dear Ab-end: Can I still use DHCP to assign an IP address to a NetWare 5 server? I can't find anything in the INETCFG utility to configure this.

A.

Dear IPLess: NetWare 5 SP4 has a DHCPCLNT.NLM that you can use. To do this, you have to perform the following steps:

  1. Set up IP on the server as you normally would, using either a real or a dummy IP address.

  2. Load DHCPCLNT.NLM. (For a list of options, you can load it with the -? parameter.)

You can load DHCPCLNT.NLM automatically with every reboot by putting it in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file. (Answer provided by Kenneth Snyder of Novell)
