ZENworks for Desktops 3 and Windows 2000

Q.

Dear Ab-end: I want to run ZENworks for Desktops 3 (ZFD3) in a Windows 2000 environment. I have set up a Windows 2000 Server with NDS eDirectory (from 21/8/2000) and ZFD3 (the latest build I could find). The installation portion went okay, except the "AUTOWS" directory was not created and no files regarding Autowrksta were copied. So I copied them manually out of the \zenworks\products\autowrksta\autows and \zenworks\products\autowrksta\jre directories on the source CD. After rebooting the server, all ZENworks-related services started correctly. I then configured a server policy to import the workstation. But after running the WSREG32.EXE program on the workstation client, I get the following errors in the WSREG32.LOG file:

WSREG-v3.0 This log file is reporting activity on aUNKNOWN_EVENT event.WSREG-v3.0 While contacting the Work Station Import Service,an error -1 was encountered, and error description<No import policy found.> was reported.WSREG-v3.0 Registration will not occur for this event.WSREG-v3.0 The program finished running.

If I perform the same procedure on a NetWare 5.1 Server, I have no problem at all. How do you get autowsimport running in a Windows 2000-only environment?

Dear Filing: Here's an idea. Go to the <SYS share>\zenworks\AutoWS directory and type the following command:

zenwsimport.exe -debug

While this doesn't answer your question directly, it may provide you with enough details to troubleshoot the problem you are facing. (Dan Rusek, Senior Systems Engineer, Novell Cleveland)
