ZENworks for Desktops: Application Object Duplication and Changing the Copy Defaults

Q.
Dear Ab-end: I have been testing ZENworks for Desktops 2 and I have a couple of questions. First, is there an easy way to duplicate an Application object in multiple containers in the tree? (I have over 100 containers representing my company's field offices.) Second, when an application is created, the default for what to do with files is "always copy." Is there a way to change this default to "copy if newer" for all applications created?

Dear Managing: You're in luck, as the answer to both of your questions is yes. When duplicating Application objects, use the Toolkit for ZENworks 2 available online at http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/zenworks/assets/zappkit2.exe
These tools allow batch file creation of tested application objects via AOT files. With some fancy batch file manipulation and use of variables, you can easily perform the creation and association of these objects. Here's a hint: Do not use Application Folders, since they are not included in the creation of the object. If you specify this as part of the Application object, you can retain standard folder names.
As far as changing the copy defaults, you can specify different default parameters for this as part of the snAppShot process. Just remember to select the Custom option when you start the snAppShot process. (Answer provided by Sterling Smith and Tom Birkenbach of Novell Consulting)
