Q.

Dear Ab-end: I have heard rumors that NDPS (Novell Distributed Print Services) is an end-of-life product to be totally replaced by ZENworks. Is this true?

A.

Dear Rumor: This is definitely not true! NDPS is stronger than ever, with new NDPS deployments being made at an increasing rate. There are currently eight third-party companies shipping NDPS gateways, with 14 others on board who will very likely be shipping with the next release of NetWare. These include most major print vendors world-wide. New features are under development from an active team of 19 dedicated engineers. The NDPS roadmap shows some exciting things to come, including an Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) client later this year. The Embedded NDPS Novell Developer Kit shipped in August 2000, with several third-party developers eagerly waiting to begin development to its platform.
