Q.

Dear Ab-end: I'm installing Novell's NetWare Client software, but none of the remote management components seem to be getting installed along with it. What am I overlooking?

Dear Managing: The latest downloadable version of the NetWare Windows 95/98 client (currently v3.21) does include remote management components. You just have to do a little tweaking, because the components are not installed by default. To make the Remote Management Agent available during a custom install, edit the NWSETUP.INI file and remove the semicolon (comment) from [PossibleInstallList] for "11=NWRCA,nwrca.inf,1,0,0". (NCIMAN still doesn't show this option, so editing the NWSETUP.INI file is the only way to make this agent available.)

If you just want to add remote management capability to your existing clients, you can use ZENworks 2 for Desktops to deliver the Remote Management Agent. You'll need ZENworks 2 Service Pack 1, which contains updated remote management files. In ZENworks, you can create an Application object that will distribute the remote manage agent files to your workstations. After you install SP1, the advised method of installing the newer remote management agent files is to increment the revision level of the Application object and "force run" it.
