Questions about NIMS (Novell Internet Messaging System).

Q.

Dear Ab-end: I have several questions about NIMS (Novell Internet Messaging System). Is it a derivation of GroupWise? Are there any plans to more fully integrate GroupWise and NIMS, or can they simply work together without messing me up?

A.

Dear Catching Up: NIMS is an Internet standards-based messaging system that supports Internet standards such as POP, IMAP, SMTP, LDAP, HTML and SSL. It is not a derivation of GroupWise code; in fact, architecturally, it is quite different. But even though GroupWise and NIMS are different, there are points of integration that make sense, such as sharing address book information and for a Web client to operate with both back-ends. GroupWise and NIMS can coexist in the same NDS tree; you can have users accessing GroupWise while others access NIMS with no conflicts. NIMS is available for education customers on ALA/SLA price lists and for corporate/government and other customers on CLA/VLA/MLA. ISP pricing using a monthly subscription model will also be available shortly.
