Q.

Dear Ab-end: There used to be a /BACKUP switch available for the GroupWise Message Transfer Agent (MTA). It allowed you to have a backup MTA in case the primary agent went down. This switch disappeared in GroupWise 5.5. Any clues as to why?

A.

Dear Missing It: Bill Mangum, Product Manager for Novell Directory Enabled Applications, put your question to the developers and got this reply: "The option was removed because it could not be applied in the IP environment. If the primary MTA went down, chances are it was because the server crashed. The secondary MTA, running on a separate machine, would kick in, but no one could send to it because its IP address was different than the IP address of the primary server."
