Dear Ab-end: Yesterday I tried to remove a virus (wm97/ethan) from three GroupWise DOT files: GW5NORM.DOT, GWNORMUS. DOT and GWNORMNL.DOT. I couldn't get it to work with InocuLAN, McAffee, or Sophos products. I ended up deleting these three files from the network. My question is, do you really need these files with GroupWise? And how is it possible that there is a virus in standard GroupWise files?

Dear Infected: These files are template documents for MS Word and are used for document management. You could get a virus in these files by opening infected MS Word documents or from a virus that looks for .DOT files. The bottom line is, all files on your computer are susceptible to viruses, including GroupWise files. The latest updates for your anti-virus programs should be able to detect and remove this virus.
