Dear Ab-end: I've heard of a utility that allows the server memory core dump to be redirected to a NetWare volume. Do you know of such a utility, and does it work with both NetWare 4 and NetWare 5?

Dear Big Core: There is a utility that allows you to do what you're describing. The beta version of the next Service Packs for NetWare 4.11 and NetWare 5 include two new utilities named DBNET4.NLM (for NetWare 4.11) and DBNET5.NLM (for NetWare 5). These utilities let you send the core dump automatically to a Windows workstation or to another NetWare server via IP.
There's also a neat little utility called NETALV.NLM that could prove useful. You can download this from Novell's Support Connection Web site as NETALV.EXE. If you want to redirect a core dump to a network drive on another server using NETALV.NLM, you must first complete the following steps:
Install an additional network adapter in the file server and bring it up as a workstation.
Using the VLM client software, make a connection to the server where you want the core dump redirected.
Boot the server and load NETALV.NLM.
NETALV sends "I'm alive" packets across the client connection so the other server won't terminate the connection when this server abends. In the event of an abend, you can redirect the core dump to a network drive on the other server.
