Problems Installing SP6 for NetWare 4.11

Articles and Tips: qna

Q.

Dear Ab-end: I recently installed SP6 for NetWare 4.11. When I restarted, my SERVER .EXE didn't work. I renamed it to SERVER.OLD but that seemed to make it worse. Help!

Dear Frazzled: Hmm, with just that little information, there aren't really any fixes that I can suggest. But here are some things you could try.

Load the SERVER.EXE by hand. Jot down exactly what happens (error messages, and so forth).

Load the SERVER.EXE with the -NA option.

Load the SERVER.EXE with the -NS option (make sure you give the server the same internal IPX number and name as before).

Those last two commands will load the server without using the STARTUP.NCF (-NS) and the AUTOEXEC.NCF (-NA) files. I would try each of these with the new SERVER.EXE as well as the old one.

If it works with one of those, you'll need to track down what in the startup or autoexec file is causing the problem.
