FTP and NetWare 5

Q.

Dear Ab-end: I've just got one picky little question: What kind of FTP server can I use for NetWare 5? One of my clients is using NetWare 3.12/4.1, and he wants to upgrade to NetWare 5 for Y2K and NDPS Service--and all that cool stuff--but they prefer to use WWW and FTP services. I'm thinking of suggesting Netscape FastTrack Server (NetWare 5) and/or Netscape Enterprise Server for WWW Service. I know that FTP is available for intraNetWare/NetWare 4.11, and NFS Service 2.3 can be used with intraNetWare/NetWare 4.11. But the Novonyx FTP server for NetWare 5 is not yet available, and neither is NFS Service 2.4. Are those my only options?

Dear Curious: Actually you had three picky little questions, but we won't hold that against you. You do get FTP with NetWare 5, specifically FTP Services (FTP Server, NIS, NW to Unix Print, Unix to NW Print). The FTP Services we had in intraNetWare are included with NetWare 5. The reason you probably weren't aware of that is that FTP the only component you cannot install through the GUI Install.

To install FTP services under NetWare 5, just launch NWCONFIG, select Product Options, and Install Unix Print Services is one of the product options. The rest you can certainly figure out for yourself.
