Q.
Dear Ab-end: I'm starting to hear a lot about Novell's BorderManager Proxy server. Can you tell me which protocols the Proxy server supports?

A.
Dear Outside: The Proxy server supports FTP, HTTP, Gopher and SSL through an HTTP proxy. For example, the Proxy server accepts an HTTP packet which includes a request such as "GET ftp://ftp.novell.com". The connection between the client browser and the Proxy server is HTTP. In this example, the Proxy server then acts as if it were an FTP client to make the request to the origin host using the FTP protocol. Currently, only clients that make HTTP connections to the Proxy server are supported. Those clients may make FTP, HTTP, Gopher or SSL requests through that HTTP connection.
