How can I push down some location profiles with the Automatic Client Upgrade (ACU)?

Q.

Dear Ab-end: When upgrading from one version of the NetWare Client for Windows 95 to another client release, how can I push down some location profiles with the Automatic Client Upgrade (ACU)? There is no setup screen in the NCIMAN utility. Using ACU, how can I push down a registry entry--not necessarily a Novell-specific registry entry, but any old registry entry?

A.

Dear Playing: There is a way to make any registry change during ACU (or other install for that matter). Of course, as with any changes to the registry, keep in mind the requisite warnings and disclaimers by understanding that registry changes can bite you.

You should therefore be careful and test any changes thoroughly before inflicting those changes upon others. By editing the .INF file used by the Install routine, you can add or delete any registry key or entry. The .INF file to edit in this case would be NWCLIENT.INF. In the file you will find the following section:

[NOVELL32.addreg]

;Target Path to Novell\Client32 is used by provider to find LOGIN.DAT

HKLM,"NETWORK\Novell\System Config\Install\TargetPath" ,,,%24%\NOVELL\CLIENT32

HKLM,"NETWORK\Novell\System Config\Install\Provider Launch", "Register",,"%24%\NOVELL\CLIENT32\NWREGSVR.EXE"

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup", Lastdrive,,"Z"; Set Protocol Pref's if not already set

HKLM,"NETWORK\Novell\System Config\Netware DOS Requester \Transport Order","0",2,"IP,IPX"

HKLM,"NETWORK\Novell\System Config\Netware DOS Requester \Name Resolving Order","0",2,"NWHOST,NDS,SLP,DNS,BIND ,SAP,DHCP"

To add the key or value, simply add a line. The syntax is documented in the Win32 platform reference under the SetupAPI heading.
