Q.

Dear Ab-end: I am trying to automate the configuration of the NS Elite 3270 emulator (which uses the computer name) as well as Y2K testing software, which requires a unique user ID per workstation. I want to be able to refer to the workstation objects created through ZENworks in my login scripts, but I discovered this feature doesn't exist via the current GUI login program. I would be able to accomplish what I need to do if the following simple enhancements were made in the login script processing language:

%WORKSTATION_ID= the current registered worksation %WORKSTATION_DN= the workstation object %COMPUTERNAME= the Windows computer name

Is such an enhancement in the works?

--Grieved Over The GUI

A.

Dear Grieved: The GUI login currently does not support any references to ZENworks-created workstation objects. Novell is currently investigating the ability to reference registry settings from within the login script, which could be used to obtain the settings you referenced.

Unfortunately, this will not be available with the initial release of the NetWare 5 Client. It is more likely that this functionality will appear in updates to the client software released after NetWare 5 ships.
