Dear Ab-end: What's the latest on Novell's Year 2000 testing of NetWare? I haven't heard anything about it for quite a while, and the new millenium is fast approaching!

Dear Nervous: Novell successfully completed the Year 2000 testing of NetWare-related technologies in December 1997. The testing revealed that there are no significant Year 2000-related problems with NetWare 4.11 or 3.12. This is a strong testament to the foresight of those who have engineered and tested NetWare over the years. Updated information was posted December 24, 1997 on the Year 2000 web site at http://www.novell.com/p2000.
A few minor issues were uncovered and have been addressed with product updates. This information and the updates (which are more optional than essential for NetWare) have been posted to our web site. (See http://www.novell.com/p2000/patches.html.) Note that NetWare 3.12 servers must be patched to the current revision level before applying the Year 2000 patches. While patches for NetWare 3.12 are available at no charge on Novell's web site, a better alternative is the NetWare 3.2 Enhancement Pack, which offers an easy-to-install, one-stop update for NetWare 3.12 customers. The NetWare 3.2 Enhancement Pack includes numerous enhancements in addition to all the necessary patches. (See the AppNote entitled "Overview and Installation of the NetWare 3.2 Enhancement Pack" in this issue for more details.)
