Q.

Dear Ab-end: 'm a subscriber to your AppNotes and I am trying to view the online publications from your web site at http://www.novell.com/research/. But when I type in my AppNotes subscription ID, it says something like "Does not match any record in our database." How do I get in?

A.

Dear Locked Out: Sorry for the confusion; the entry process to our web site was changed from how we initially mapped it out. When you access the Novell Research home page, first click on the Sign In button. At the Please Sign In screen, you will see Novell ID and Password entry boxes. These entries are not where you enter your subscriber information; they are used to register you to this and other Novell web sites.

If you are a current DeveloperNet member, enter your DeveloperNet ID and password. Otherwise, click on the Register Now button. This brings up the Step 1: Select or Add Your Company screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to either select your company or add it if it does not already exist in the database. If you are adding a new entry, fill out the Company Profile page and click the Submit New Company button. Then fill out the Step 2: Add Your Personal Information page. At the bottom of this page, you will type in your email address and a password for accessing this site. Click on the Submit Personal Information button when you are finished.

In a few seconds, you will see a confirmation screen with your Novell ID. Write this down, for you won't see it again. Click on the highlighted words signing in to bring you back to the Sign In page. Now type in your newly-acquired Novell ID number along with the password that you typed in at the Personal Information page and click the Sign In button.

This brings you back again to the Novell Research Home page, where you will see a Welcome message with your user name in the upper left-hand corner of the window. Now you can click on the How To View Publications button to go to the Viewing Novell Research Publications page. When you click on either one of the download links, you will be asked to type in your AppNotes Subscriber ID, which is on your mailing label on your AppNote issue. This will allow you to download the files you need to access the on-line information.
