Q.

Dear Ab-end: s there a way to merge a NetWare 4.10 tree into a NetWare 4.11 tree? If so, what do I need to know before attempting this feat?

A.

Dear Merging: It's not as formidable as all that! The correct method for merging a 4.1 tree into a 4.11 tree is:

  1. Make sure all NetWare 4.1 servers are running DS.NLM version 5.01.

  2. Load DSREPAIR on the server holding the master replica of the [Root] partition on the 4.1 tree. Select "Advanced Options", "Schema Operations", "Import Remote Schema", and then select the other tree as the source.

  3. Perform the same operation as in Step 2 on the server holding the master replica of [Root] on the NetWare 4.11 tree.

  4. You can now perform the merge.

Thanks to Maurice Smulders, a member of the NDS World Wide Support team from the Novell European Support Centre, for providing these steps.
