Q.

Dear Ab-end: am having problems with Microsoft's Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and I'm wondering if you could help me. I downloaded the Service Pack for NT 4.0, but it didn't solve my problem. I used the ROLLBACK utility to try to revert to the previous configuration but now I can't do anything with the workstation. Am I totally hosed?

A.

Dear Afraid: I'm sorry to say that you are indeed hosed. Unfortunately, the ROLLBACK utility deletes NT's registry, which holds all of the important information in its world. According to Microsoft, the only way to recover from this situation is to either reinstall Windows NT Workstation or restore the system from your most recent backup.
