Dear Ab-end: My DOS applications seem to be running much slower now that I've installed NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95. Got any suggestions?

A.

Dear Undead: With the NetWare DOS Requester, the beta release of Client 32 for Windows 95, and Microsoft's MS Client for NetWare Networks, client requests are cached, resulting in less traffic on the network and better performance on the workstation. However, there was a problem with the released version of Client 32 for Windows 95 reading small data blocks (2 to 5 bytes), which caused a lot of traffic to the server and resulted in slower performance.

This problem was fixed with the CLIENT32.NLM that comes in the C3295D.EXE patch kit. You can get the patch kit by accessing http://support.novell.com and going to the Search page. Look under the Novell File Finder and click on the Minimum Patch List page. Then go to Client Kits & Updates and download the file.
