Q.

Dear Ab-end: I can't get my server abend core dump saved to my server's local hard disk. How much do I need to make this work?

--Tried To Dump and No Place To Go

A.

Dear No Place: The general rule is to have enough local disk space to accommodate your DOS programs (if any), your NetWare server software and drivers, any third-party software that you use, as well as enough disk space to accommodate how much memory the server has, plus 20MB for safe keeping. So look at how much disk space you presently have with DOS and NetWare server software and any other software already on the local disk, then add 20MB of free disk space to however many Megabytes of server memory the server presently has. This is a minimum to perform a core dump from the server's memory.

If you didn't leave enough local disk space but are using DR/MS/PC-DOS 6.0 or greater, you can add disk compression to give you more local disk space for storing core dumps.
