Q.

Dear Ab-end: Where do I download the latest and greatest copy of the Client 32 for DOS/Windows? How much does it cost? How often will it be updated?

A.

Dear Inquisitive: You can download the beta version of Client 32 for DOS/Windows by going to the URL http://netwire.novell.com and then selecting What's New, then selecting the Download Novell's 32-bit Client for Windows 95. Then select the Client 32 for DOS and Windows page and go to the File Updates icon. Under the Program Files, click on the Download NetWare Client 32 for DOS and Windows 3.1x and choose whether you wish to download the network installation version or the diskette installation version. This is a free upgrade.

The beta version of Client 32 for DOS/Windows has an updated Client 32.NLM file presently called DW32P2.EXE that you can download from the Updates section in the Client 32 for DOS and Windows page. On CompuServe, type GO NWOSFILES and search for the DW32P2.EXE file to download.

Once you download this file, place it in the Client 32 subdirectory that you created for the network install. Then type DW32P2 <Enter> to begin the file extracting process, and choose Yes to overwrite the existing Client 32.NLM file that is located in that directory. This will then update the Client 32.NLM for all users who are updated using the Automatic Client Update procedure or who install Client 32 for DOS/Windows through this directory structure.

Future updates and patches to Client 32 can be handled in a similar fashion. Copy the patch or updated file into the proper network directory and begin the file extracting process, and choosing Yes to overwrite the existing file(s) located in that directory. Or simply extract the files and copy them to the correct directory to overwrite the existing file(s). As for how often these files will be updated, when Client 32 is released out of beta, it will probably change less than it is right new. (How's that for a glib answer!)
