Q.

Dear Ab-end: It is my understanding that NDS replicas will be added to the server if:

  1. bindery files exist on the server (i.e. the server is a 3.11/3.12 upgrade)

  2. the number of replicas of a partition is less than three

Is this an AND situation or an OR situation? In other words, if I have already upgraded three servers and they have replicas of the partition, what happens when I upgrade the fourth bindery server? Will it also have a replica?

--Confused in AND/ORra

A.

Dear Confused: This is the kind of question that keeps my old heart a-pumpin'! The NetWare 4 installation program uses the two rules stated in your question and a logical OR to determine if additional replicas should be added for each partition. In the case of upgrading a NetWare 3 server and its bindery files to NetWare 4.1, a replica will always be added to the server to support Bindery Services.
