Q.

Dear Ab-end: I keep getting an "NDS Time Not Synchronized Error." How do I get rid of this error message?

--DS Perplexed

A.

Dear DS Perplexed: NetWare Directory Services may report the following error:

Time_Not_Synchronized -Error 659 (FD6D)

Yet when users check the server's status with the TIME command, it reports that time is synchronized. What this error actually means is that Directory Services has received a time stamp that is older than information already in the Directory. The server time has probably been set backwards. This could result from a dead CMOS battery or the time being set wrong when the server was booted.

This error occurs mostly on small networks that use the default time synchronization configuration. Note that it is an NDS error, not a TIMESYNC.NLM error.
