Optional update for SystemTap

(Last modified: 10OCT2006)

solutions Optional update for SystemTap SuSE Linux Maintenance Web (f1856527fefb7f2060aeb6907f319a09)

Applies to

Package: systemtap
Product(s): SUSE SLES 10 for x86
SUSE SLES 10 for AMD64 and Intel EM64T

Release: 20061010
Obsoletes: none

This update adds package 'systemtap' to SLES10.

Problem description

This update adds package "systemtap" to SLES10.
SystemTap as such is fully supported, with the exception of so-called guru mode (which allows arbitrary code to be patched into the kernel, thus invalidating certifications and preventing Novell from supporting such a system).
The primary use of SystemTap is as a debugging tool, so at this point we recommend against permanent SystemTap modules and may request such modules to be disabled when working on technical support requests.
To be able to use SystemTap you need to have the debuginfo pacakges for the kernel installed. The following article shows how to activate the channel for the debuginfo packages within rug or YaST:
