Problem description

Snort's RPC decoder contained a buffer overflow. This allowed remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with root privileges. The only workaround despite shutting down the snort daemon is to disable the RPC decoder in the snort config file.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can be easily installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh snort.rpm
